About a week and a half ago, when Moriven last got the oil changed on our commuter car, he noticed that one of the tires had a big nail in it. It wasn't flat, but it had a big nail in it.
So, he determined to buy new rear tires. However - and this is important - he did not actually buy the tires.
I noted at that time that I was wary of driving the car because I didn't want to have the tire go while I was on the freeway. (Note the prickling on your neck? That's the universe sitting up and taking notice.)
This morning, at oh-my-god-it's-cold in the morning, after I dropped Moriven off at work in Pleasanton, I got back on 680 and headed to my office in San Ramon. About 3 miles from my exit, the car begins to handle strangely. I move over to the right lane. One mile from the exit, the tire goes completely: poof! it is little rubber gravel.
So I wait for the nice AAA guy for 45 minutes. Brr.
I called Moriven. Poor Moriven - I wasn't angry, but I'm sure he'll hear about this again at some point.
The preferred tire shop that Moriven recommended was closed at that hour. Tow truck guy left and Moriven got one of his coworkers to pick me up and bring me to work.
Fortunately, I don't have anything to do at work today, so I'm not really worried about being 2 hours late. It was something to do with my morning.
