In the annuals vs perennials playoffs at my house, the perennials have won, hands down.
The cosmos (the single perennial casualty) and the pansies have been replaced with a cala lily. The rosemary has beaten out the marigolds. The jasmine that I replanted started putting out new growth recently and I saw my first flower today. Of the six morning glories that I got to sprout, only one survived the attack of the snails. It put out its first flower just before we went ot Oregon and has since quadrupled in size. The snails had a beery death. The geraniums are all doing well. The oregano is still a lovable monster, the basil says it's time for pesto, and the bouganvilla just crested our first set of eaves. The spider plants are proving to be drought -resistant ground cover for the patio.
With as many spiders as we haveon the porch, we certainly don't need insecticides.
