Sunday is for kitchens

Yesterday I went to our lovely farmer's market and then spent the afternoon processing what I bought into work-sized portions and cleaning the kitchen.
I have determined that I need slippers for the kitchen. With big thick squishy soles and lots of support. Barefoot in the kitchen just doesn't work for me for very long.
I was more excited than I think I ought to have been to find one place selling jicama. I was also pleased to buy eggs there since they really do taste better. I did resist the temptation to buy quail eggs, since I didn't really have a plan for them.
I tried mutsu apples from my favorite orchard guys. Mutsu is a hybrid of pippin and golden delicious. They definitely had the pippin flavor, but unfortunately picked up some of the golder delicious texture. Still, they come in during a different season, so I can extend the time I can get the pippin flavor.
Beyond that, I just got pretty standard stuff: peaches, flowers, scallions, green beans, strawberries, raspberries, carrots, and a leek. Maybe there was other stuff. My bag was awfully heavy by the end.
By the time I got home, the raspberries were smooshed, so I made a little sauce out of them. Then I cleaned out the fridge a bit (goodbye, tan salad). I found some celery from TJs which I cut up with carrots for snack bags for lunch (I'm always so pleased when I get around to doing this). The jicama and strawberries were likewise combined in snack-sized container. Later, I made apple fritters from the Hampton Court recipe. Yum.
