Not Entirely Useless Weekend

Yesterday I worked a bit of OT. Then, I started on the couch project while moriven (how do I love thee?) cleaned the kitchen, even the walls, floor, and cabinets. Have I mentioned recently how lucky I am to have my hubby?

But I digress... the couch project is a relatively simple job. The woven rubber strapping that was holding up the set was decaying to the point where it had torn through in several places. Last month I did some serious web searches to find the same stuff to replace it and found it at an antique furniture resporation supply place. With Christmas out of the way, it seemed like a good time to start on the couch. And then I damned myself by saying "It'll only take an hour or two." Hah. Sure - for reassembly.

When I took the couch apart I discovered is that whenever my grandmother did this the last time, she put between ten and twenty staples in each strap and there were more than a doxen straps. With pliers and a screwdriver, I think I managed to get maybe five ends free in an hour. Let's just say that after moriven cleaned the kitchen and made me a lovely dinner, I was still only half done. We took shifts through the evening and finally finished pulling the last six off this morning. I was hoping that my hands would feel better after a night's sleep, but no luck there.

Then it was on to assembly. This is te easy part, right? Well, sure, but I need shorter staples for the staple gun. The half-inchers are just not sinking all the way in. I decided that a trip to the hardware store was not going to put me in a better mood, so I went into the basement to clean out a box to put the last of the Christmas decorations in. You know, the ones that hide in places you forget to look or were 75% off after the new year or just don't fit in the other boxes even though they used to last year, yeah, those.

In the course of digging up the box, I managed to clean out and recycle enough stuff to make me feel like this has been a productive day. I also sorted my patterns in to the small pile that I am keeping (I don't really work with patterns all that much) and the big pile which I am going to sell. I don't really know how I ended up with so many patterns, since they're not really my thing. It's a combination of inheriting them, buying them, and having them placed in a basket on my doorstep with a note asking me to look after junior petite.

I think I'm going to sell the lot in one swell foop so that I only have to deal with the aggrivation once.  So, friends, if you, or someone you know, are interested in buying around 100 patterns of mostly women's clothing let me know. The patterns are a variety of sizesand mostly unused. Most have never been out of their envelopes. The bulk of the patterns, of course, are from the '80s and '90s. There are around a dozen from the 40s and '50s and a bunch from the '60s and '70s. (Can you say bellbottoms and jumpsuits? I knew you could.) I'll get around to a proper inventory later.

Put the really old ones up on e-bay or craigslist. Especially if they are Vogues or anything a little stylish. You'd be surprised how many people are looking for that sort of thing.

I haven't used patterns much, since I'm a sewing novice still, but I'm adventurous and willing to try.
However, what I would really be interested are the ones from the 40s and 50s, not so much the other stuff. If you don't get other offers and feel like separating those patterns out I'd love to take them off your hands :)
